New Year Art

This splatter painting was created one afternoon with my friend Juanita. I really enjoy doing this type of paintings because they are so spontaneous.

This is my first attempt at blending colors and I am very pleased with the outcome. I look forward to blending a lot more in the near future. (Colors used: Turquoise Green and grey)

This was an attempt to just paint whatever I felt and not plan my painting before I started. The title came from Carter saying that it looked like a fun slide down the middle. ♥

Doors, Doorways and Halls

Following are a few images of a new interest of mine and that is doors, doorways and hallways. Don't ask me why but I find them very interesting and some so beautiful that I have to share them with you.

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us"-Hellen Keller

This door is my favorite because of it's color but the colors in this image are so complementary to each other that it adds to the beauty of the doorway.

I love the straight lines and the vintage feel of these doors. The colors in this image helps me imagine what this street looks/feels like (I'd love to visit this area).

I love the colors and texture of these doors. There is stone, wood and it looks like it could be plaster. They each provide a different feel or texture but are brought together by complementary colors.

Lovely symmetry and clean, straight lines are offset by the crooked lamppost. I love clean and simple images with a little disorder.

This set of doors and room are just cool. The colors and patterns just go!

This hallway is just sexy, I love the swirling lines repeated throughout the hall, walls and stairs combined with the darkness of the area.

To Ari

I've learned that you are going to be a mother and I was at first worried for you just because I'm your big sister and it is my job to do so but I am now so very excited for you. I don't doubt for a second that you will be a wonderful mother and adapt to the new and important role in your life because you are a wonderful person. You are so loving (yet you like to appear to be difficult), you are one of the most honest & fair people I know( in everything that you do), you have a big heart, you are sensitive and you are so much fun to be around. You have a journey ahead of you but I want you to know that we are here for you in anyway that you need and I look forward to meeting my future niece/nephew. I love you and I am so excited for you Ari.

Stunning Women

I heard that Jennifer Aniston, Britney Spears and Madonna were named in the top 10 beautiful women of all time by Men's Health Magazine and while they are all beautiful women, I just couldn't believe what I was hearing because "all time" encompasses many, many years and many, many women. So.... I decided to list a few of my favorite beautiful women. Let me know if you agree, don't agree or think that I forgot someone.

My Art- 2011

Same Song
Experimenting with color combinations and the feelings that the combinations evoke was the purpose behind this piece. I really enjoyed making this piece and using so many different colors.

Verve
This is my favorite piece that I've made to date. I was inspired by the website Art is Fun. This piece allowed me to grow creatively and experiment with what I like but it also challenged me as a perfectionist.

My Art- 2010

Everywhere
This piece was a gift to my best friend Alexis Forbes. I wanted to use some of her favorite colors into the painting while trying a new technique(for me) called splatter.

Crossed
This is one of my first pieces ever made and I wanted to mainly work on my brush stroke.

Swirled
This piece is another one of my first. I chose circles as my focus because they were the easiest to produce. I began experimenting with color combinations here.

Checked
This piece was inspired by the plaid and checked design of a lot of the kids Christmas clothing I saw last year. Once again, I wanted to experiment with colors using a metallic black as my base and contrasting it with pink and a pearl white.

Organic Architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright

Falling Water House
This house was designed by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright. This house was designed to blend into nature. The colors and even design mimic it's natural surroundings.

Hills De-Caro House
A famous home remodeled by Wright in 1906.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Home & Studio
The home of Frank Lloyd Wright is designed in his signature "Prarie-Style" and was completed in 1898.

Rococo Art

Francois de Cuvilllies, the Elder

Rococo art is known for its ornate, playful and elaborate designs, colors and shapes. These photos are of two beautiful pieces of work designed by Francois de Cuvillies the Elder. I may not be a truly prissy girly girl but I can appreciate the fanciness of both of these rooms. The Mirror Room (above) is located in the Amalienburg Palace in Munich, Germany. The Hoftheater (below) is located in Bavaria.

Nature vs. Nurture

Is creativity a born trait or can we nurture and develop it?

I believe that both are possible. I've decided to create this blog because of two classes that I took this semester at the University of South Alabama. The classes were Art Appreciation and Micro-computing systems in Education (EDM310). These classes exposed me to beautiful artwork but also helped my creative side blossom. I will share some of my favorite pieces by others as well as myself. I hope you enjoy.
